About the Book

The message of Jesus as a reconciler of all people has been bungled by the American church. Labels like racist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-intellectual, and partisan are how Jesus and the church have come to be portrayed in today’s media. These descriptors couldn’t be further from the truth of who Jesus is.

Through this rich and raw collection, Sara takes us inside the minds of some lesser-known followers of Jesus. Their experiences correct the noise of post-Christian culture and catalyze you into a life-changing relationship with Jesus.

"I loved this book!! In these pages, Sara brings life to the Biblical stories many of us have read for years. Through her insightful, personal approach to the “back story”, she adds richness and depth to the power of people encountering Jesus and being changed by his love. If you want some fresh eyes on these stories, then Disciple, Interrupted is the book you should be reading."

About the Author

Sara Heacox: author, coach, pastor, speaker, professor, mom

Sara helps people feel more confident in their influence as followers of Jesus. She does this as an author, coach, pastor, speaker, professor, and mom. When not teaching or writing, you can find her walking her dog, laughing with her two adult children, and dreaming of owning an island off the coast of Scotland.

Endorsements

"They say a friend is someone who learns the song you sing, and then sings it to you when you have forgotten.

Sara has learned deeply the song of the Gospel, told through so many characters she has intimately befriended.

And now she shares that song in this beautiful retelling of the Gospel story. You shall be enriched, and reminded."

Wayne Park, Chancellor, Fuller Theological Seminary Texas, and Assistant Professor of Congregational and Marketplace Leadership

"In this work, Sara Heacox has brought to life the stories of ordinary people in Scripture who encountered Jesus. It is beautifully written and will transport you into the heart and mind of the people Jesus touched, healed, served, taught and at every turn, discipled. This book will invite you to a richer, fuller, deeper experience with Jesus, the Great Interrupter, and maybe…just maybe…your life will be interrupted too!"

Denise Muir Kjesbo, Ph.D., Professor and Program Director, Master of Arts in Children’s, Youth and Family Ministry, Bethel Seminary, St. Paul, MN

"Life is a struggle and sometimes it becomes difficult to overcome those struggles. Dr. Sara Heacox narrates the

stories of people in the Bible who had different kinds of struggles but whose lives were transformed after their

encounter with Jesus. These stories are so down to earth, you will start to say “that is me.” It will be difficult to

put it down once you start reading. You will feel the love, compassion, understanding and kindness of Jesus to

those who are in some kind of life’s struggle. You will never regret reading this book."

Look for the Silver Lining | April 17

I recently read an article on discipleship that pointed out that God wants to give us the desires of our hearts. I simultaneously smiled and cringed. The smile is self-explanatory...who doesn't want God to grant the desires of their heart???
